About This Blog

Team UAlberta is a Canadian iGEM team focused on treating and detecting Nosema ceranae, a fungal parasite that infects the midgut of the Western honeybee (Apis mellifera). Nosema is a serious issue, particularly here in Alberta as it leads to higher-than-average bee mortality rates. This blog has been made to document our journey as we try to #savethebees, and to also teach the public about iGEM, synthetic biology, bees, and the work that we are doing in the hopes of increasing scientific literacy. Expect a new post every week!
